Live Coverage || Lacuna Coil, Cellar Darling, Sinheresy @ Piraeus Academy (19/11/2017)

Lacuna Coil has proven time after time they are an exceptional live band. Three years after I last caught them on tour, they were confirmed to play my hometown on November 19th. Excitement settled in and I counted the days to the show.

Sinheresy from Italy was first. Generic modern melodic metal with two vocalists and lack of originality. Not what you'd expect as the opening act in this show. (4)

Cellar Darling was up next. The swiss band had a The-Gathering-esque essence in their performance, especially when it came to Anna Murphy's voice. Although fairly new, Cellar Darling is a fast arising name in the scene. They were slightly swallowed by the big stage but they do have potential. (7)

If Lacuna Coil had a motto to describe their stage setting, which consisted of curved surfaces that resembled the walls of an asylum, it would definitely be "We're all mad in here!". The quinted stormed on stage blasting "Ultima Ratio" and "Spellbound". Vocalists Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro were truly captivating; both their stage presence and their vocal performances have reached a new level over the last few years. While Scabbia didn't fail to hit a single high note, Ferro moved from his traditional singing to growls with great success. I must admit that usually, when I shoot, it's one member who catches my attention. However, the entire band had something unique and eye-catching; from the vocalist duo who made sure to strike a pose every time they finished a phrase, to bassist Marco Coti Zelatti aka. the deranged clown, who I swear could stare at my soul, to drummer Ryan Folden, who was headbanging and singing along to basically every lyric. The setlist graced Lacuna Coil's entire catalogue consisting of hit songs for the most part, also containing hymns the band hadn't played in a while such as "Swamped" and "Our Truth".
For the encore, the band brought the holiday spirit early with an inflatable tree, snowman and fake snow for "Naughty Crhistmas", followed by "Heaven's A Lie" and "The House Of Shame". I haven't had so much fun at a show, risking to lose my voice, in a long time. I still regret nothing. (9)
