Teenage Wrist announce new album, release new single

LA-based rock band Teenage Wrist announce their new album, Still Love, out August 4th via Epitaph Records. Still Love is her third album, self-produced by Marshall Gallagher (guitar/vocals) and Anthony Salazar (drums) to create their most extensive collection of songs to date from the ground up. This album is the culmination of Teenage Wrist's last eight years and shows how they continue to evolve and refine their sound while reaching new heights in both scope and execution.

Teenage Wrist also present the music video for the album's title track, which features Canadian band Softcult. Dealing with toxic masculinity and self-loathing, the lyrics are rich in richness, made up of fuzzy guitars and the soaring harmonies of the band's two female singers.

Vocalist, guitarist and bassist Marshall Gallagher explains: "I was going through a pretty dark phase after Covid (like most people) and I started to find out things about myself that I found difficult to deal with; for example, why I carry so much shame and guilt, and how the manifestation of these things literally hurt me and others.

It's amazing how writing down your thoughts on paper can help you understand your feelings. Writing these lyrics was a kind of gateway to forgive myself - for big mistakes, for not living up to expectations, for being a shit tornado from someone who was just learning how to lives. Also, I've heard way too much Sunny Day Real Estate and I'm sure that leaked out."

"Still Love" will no doubt please fans who prefer the distorted guitars and crunchy chords of 2021's Earth is a Black Hole, but the band aren't ashamed to admit there's a strong pop sensibility that shows just how much they care as a songwriters have grown. Lyrically, the songs are more introspective compared to the nihilistic energy of their second album, detailing the process and emotional catharsis of learning to love yourself

The writing process began in early 2022 with a retreat at Joshua Tree that inspired the band to push the boundaries of experimentation. Rather than relying on nostalgia, the dynamic between the two musicians drives them to push the boundaries of not just the Teenage Wrist sound, but their own personal creative expressions. "We didn't have any preconceived notions about how we were going to come out with this record, so we decided to just create something organic that we felt fully present on," explains Salazar. "There was no intention other than that we wanted to express ourselves."

The strong bond between the two collaborators is at the core of Teenage Wrist's music, and more than any other factor, that's evident in every moment of Still Love. "There was a certain feeling that music gave me as a kid and this is honestly the first time I've felt that we've come close to that feeling on a record," says Gallagher of the end result. "We just shot from the gut with this record and tried not to analyze things too much... and I think the record speaks for itself."
