Pianos Become The Teeth announce new album, "Drift", due out August 26th

Baltimore, D.C., post-hardcore band Pianos Become The Teeth announces their new album "Drift" on August 26th via Epitaph Records.

The fifth studio album is the follow-up to 2018's Wait For Love, which not only Pitchfork praised for its "musicality and imaginative rhythms". Today they share the lead single, the haunting and technical "Genevieve", which the band believe embodies the project's craftsmanship and creativity very well. With ethereal fingerpicking guitar and layers of harmonies, frontman Kyle Durfey questions his self-esteem over poetic lyrics sung with gentle vibrato.

Innovation and experimentation are the themes that have been driving Pianos Become The Teeth since it was founded in 2006, always with the aim of continuously creating more mature works. Many of the songs on "Drift" were recorded using a 1960's analog Echoplex, which was physically manipulated and distorted in some moments on the album to create a unique sound that enhances the listening experience. You can hear some of the delays being pushed to the brink of collapse before disappearing and the song sort of returning to reality.

There is a sense of mystique and intimacy throughout the album, aided by producer Kevin Bernsten (Integrity, Pig Destroyer), who recorded the band's first two projects over a decade ago. Bernsten's previous work with the band allowed him to lead them into the future without neglecting their past. Kyle Durfey comments, "Kevin knows who we used to be and he knows who we are now and he was really willing to experiment and try everything in the studio to see how it would work."

The five-piece band from Baltimore, D.C., which also includes guitarists Mike York and Chad McDonald, bassist Zac Sewell and drummer David Haik, originally started out as a screamo band and reunited with 2009's "Old Pride" and "The Lack Long After" (2011) an enthusiastic fanbase behind it. Shortly after, however, Durfey stopped screaming and the band morphed into a post-rock act, expanding its sound on Keep You (2014) and Wait For Love (2018). Drift is the culmination of the band's penchant for redefining and transcending their sound in a way that stays true to their artistic and aesthetic vision.
