Live Coverage || Cradle Of Filth, WEB @ Gagarin205, 02/06/2018

After a seven-year absence, Cradle Of Filth returned to Greece for two shows, while on their Cryptoriana world tour.

I've known the opening act, WEB, for over a decade now although I must admit I haven't followed them consistently in the recent years. The band was in a good mood, playing a rampant 45-minute setlist consisting of both new and older songs, with bold references to the band's recent album, "Tartarus". A fitting warmup to the headliners, they got the crowd pumped but I felt the band was not very loose. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad with adding taste to your show, but if you are going to stage gimmicks, the result should feel a little natural.

Cradle Of Filth went on stage with a slight delay, which didn't seem to bother the crowd. Kicking off the set with "Gilded Cunt", the band won the fans and gained extra points of awsomeness. Dani and co. put on a vivacious performance, with the restless frontman in a greater shape than the last time I saw him, screaming squealing his heart out without skipping a beat. The setlist didn't differ than the last time we caught them in Toronto (not that we are complaining) and payed homage to the band's entire catalogue, with only a couple of references to their latest album, "Cryptoriana".
The sound was crystal clear and the crowd was deliberately becoming more and more involved, fully erupting as soon as the band returned on stage for the encore, which also featured some all-time favorites ("Nymphetamine (fix)", "Her Ghost In The Fog", "Born In A Burial Gown", "From Cradle To Enslave"). (9)
Looking back at the show, what stood out the most for me was the eerie insanity of guitarist Richard Saw's persona and the excellent performance of keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft. I think most people who have caught the band on tour over the past couple of years would agree that these two are the best thing that happened to Cradle Of Filth in a while. I am really looking forward to seeing them again with a new album.
